Click the image below and learn about Google Earth and how it works. Spend a few minutes in the Navigation section to learn how to move around the models.
Why is the Mine Pit shown as a flat image?
One of the few things Google Earth can't show is excavations into the ground. Instead, representative images are used to show the extents of the pit, while artificial shading gives the illusion of depth.
How up-to-date is the imagery?
The imagery used by Google Earth comes from many sources. Typically the age of the imagery can be found by the copyright notice shown in the middle of the screen towards the bottom.
Why are some buildings missing?
Google acquires building data from municipalities directly. Sometimes the data is incomplete.
How can I view the project from my address?
Type your address into the search bar at the top-left corner of the Google Earth window. Google Earth will zoom to the address, looking straight down. Turn your view orientation back to the project area. For help with navigating see the link in Step 2.
Some of the roads and ground look unnaturally rough. Is that normal?
Yes. Google uses data from many sources, but some is more detailed than others. To see the highest detail available, choose "Use high quality terrain..." from the Tools->Options menu in Google Earth. This may resolve some detail issues.
How do I bring up the Visibility Profiles?
Each preset vantage point has a visible point in front of it identifying its visibility profile. Click the point to bring up the profile. If you can't see the point, move your view slightly. If you still don't see the visibility profile point, you can select it from the Places panel, beneath the preset vantage points.
When zooming or panning near ground level, my viewpoint seems stuck. How do I fix that?
Google Earth may be set to automatically tilt, zoom or enter "Ground Level View." Go to Tools->Options and select the Navigation tab. Choose "Do not automatically tilt while zooming" in the Navigation box.
How can I provide feedback on the Model?
Please send all feedback about the 3D model to email@example.com.
Select a heading for answers to common questions.
Click "Download the Model" in the section at the bottom of this page to get a small file that will launch Google Earth when run. On some computers you will need to load the file into Google Earth.
In Google Earth, expand the folders in the table of contents to see layers you can use to zoom to vantage points, turn on and off city boundaries etc.
Please be patient. This is a large model that takes time to load. Loading time can be 30 seconds, 2 minutes, or longer depending on your computer and Internet connection.
